Problem: Installing the windows 95 power toys

Create a folder named power in the root directory of your C drive.

Download the power toys from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/default.asp
and extract the files to the power folder you created.
Then download the file powerfix.zip and extract its contents to the folder you created.
Read the file Read Me First.txt BEFORE installing the power toys.

There is a readme.txt file that contains information on the power toys.
Use the below information to install rather than the instructions in that file.

I would not recommend installing the X-mouse function as that is included in the windows 98 version of Tweak UI.

Installation Instructions:
Right click on the .inf file for the desired feature and select install from the pop-up menu.

Click below for information about each installation file:
Content.inf    Deskmenu.infDoshere.inf   Explore.inf Findx.inf   Flexicd.inf Quickres.inf
Sendtox.inf    Shellfix.inf  Target.inf      Cabview.inf  Aplayext.inf
Clock.exe    Tapitna.exe

Content.inf
With this handy-dandy context-menu extension, when you right-click on any folder or other container, you'll get a cascade menu that shows you all the contents of that folder, one-level deep. It works on shortcuts-to-folders, too.

Deskmenu.inf
Get to the contents of your desktop from a convenient menu without moving a single window!
This utility appears in your taskbar near the clock and looks like your desktop icon.  Click it for quick access to all of your desktop contents via a convenient menu. Deskmenu also allows you to minimize and unminimize all of your windows.

Doshere.inf
Right-click a folder and start an MS-DOS prompt right here, right away.  TIP:  You can even right-click the tiny icon in the far upper left hand corner of an open folder.

Explore.inf
This is a simple custom command for all folders and containers that lets you right-click and choose "Explore from Here" to get an Explorer window that has the target folder as its root.

Findx.inf
Lets you add your own custom commands to the "Find" menu.  Comes with a few
built-in to get you started.  The find menu exists inside the start menu.  Easy access is available by using the above content.inf option on the start menu.  Right click on the start menu and select content | find.

Flexicd.inf
FlexiCD is a taskbar notification icon that makes controlling audio CDs a breeze. When an audio CD is in your drive, FlexiCD gives you convenient single-click play/pause control, a tooltip that tells you which track and time you're on, and a right-click menu that provides commands for starting, stopping, ejecting and moving around the tracks on your CD.
This feature might conflict with an installed audio CD program and should not be used if you have a player otherwise setup.

Quickres.inf
Here's one we wish was built right in: change DPI and bit depth without rebooting. QuickRes lives in the notification area-- just single-click (right OR left) on it to select your new display settings.  This feature should only be used if your dispaly driver does not provide this feature.  If available you should be able to access it by right clicking on an unused part of your desktop and selecting properties from the pop-up menu.  On the dialog box that opens, click on the settings tab and then the advanced button.  There should be a show settings icon check box on the dialog box that opens if it is available.  Click OK or Apply to save changes.  I would recommend using that option rather than this program if its available.

Sendtox.inf
Adds the following new commands to your "Send To" menu:
  - Send To Any Folder
  - Send To Clipboard as Contents
  - Send To Clipboard as Name
  - Send To Command Line
  - Send To several types of E-mail
After installing copy the file "Desktop as a Shortcut" to your send-to folder to restore the send to the desktop as a shortcut.

If the file above to replace the send to the desktop as a shortcut does not work, double click on the file DeskFix.vbs.
This should repair the registry damage that the send to power toy can cause.

If the script file above does not make the send to the desktop as a shortcut work, double click on the file fixsndsk.reg.
This should repair the registry damage that the send to power toy can cause.

Shellfix.inf
This is designed to repair wide context (right click) menu problems.
I do not know if this is required with windows 98.
The Aplayext.inf file installs this as a part of its installation.
Return to top of installation instructions.

Target.inf
Finally, you can get the properties for a shortcut's target just by right-clicking the shortcut. This extension will add to any shortcut's context menu the complete context menu of its target.

If you have installed the autoplay extender power toy you may get a message about the CDPlayNotify being missing in the target.dll.  If this happens, you need to reinstall the autoplay extender power toy by right clicking on the Aplayext.inf file and selecting install from the pop-up menu.

Cabview.inf
You know those *.CAB files that you'll find on the Win95 CD and floppies? (These are files containing one or more compressed files.) Well, with the CABFILE Viewer shell extension, you can browse right into a CAB file and see all of its contents, and perform normal shell operations on the files inside.

Aplayext.inf
Auto play CD ROM Extender.  When a CD ROM is placed in your CD ROM drive, this program opens a window that provides buttons to open, explore, run setup.exe, add/remove shortcuts to the CD (I have not used this feature so I do not have any details on it).
This can be used with autostart of CD ROM's turned off in Tweak UI's paranoia tab to let you decide if you want to run a program or not in the CD.
This program can also be started by right clicking on your CD ROM icon in my computer.

Clock.exe
This version of CLOCK.EXE takes advantage of win95's region windows, so your analog clock will be round, just like a real clock would. To see it in action, run Clock, then choose "Analog" and "No Title". (Note.. you just need to copy this EXE to use the clock. No setup file is provided.)
Return to top of installation instructions.

Tapitna.exe
If you use the telephone dialer application from several locations (e.g. from a laptop computer) this powertoy is a must!
Double-click the TapiTNA icon or place a shortcut to it in your Start menu.
An icon will appear in your Taskbar notification area (near the clock)
A menu from this icon enables you quick access to:
*) change your current TAPI location
 *) bring up dialing properties
 *) run Phone Dialer
I have not used this program with windows 98 so I do not know how well it works with it.
It would likely not be a good idea to use this if you have a voice/FAX program installed.
